Research Paper: The Comparison of eastern and western culture in terms of movies
As the tec advanced, ppl are leaving a mount of leisure time.
Because of the large number of leisure time, ppl are seeking for entertainment to entertain themselves. Among the recent popular
entertainments, Movies are one of the representative entertainment type. And it becomes more and more popular nowadays. From
the entertainment ppl usually do, we can analyse the culture similarities and diversities.
The research paper is focus on three areas.
The three ares are moral code, gender issue, sex attitude.
About moral code, the Easterners like to fix a high moral theme to a movie, while the Westerners
like to leave a space and let the audiences think.
About the gender issue, the women in eastern and western are both have a lower social status than
men. However, the western women enjoy a sightly higher rights than the eastern women.
About the sex attitute, the westerners are apparently more open than the easterners, and we can
see this diversities oberviously form the analysis of the majority western movies.
From the three areas influnenced by culture, we can do the research on culture.

Moral code in movies:
Easterners are fond of creating a high moral level for the theme of
the story, because moral code is always the focus of eastern culture. That means the purpose of eastern stories is generally
to teach the audience a moral lesson. Consequently, eastern movies, which are influenced by the culture, have the same purpose---highlight
the moral code of society. The movie The Promise can support this idea. It is a
tale of passion that unfolds against a backdrop of war as a beautiful and mysterious princess becomes the object of affection
for three very different men--a powerful duke, a brave general and a lowly slave. As passions spark and egos clash, lives
are ruined, lovers spurned and no one will ever be the same. Although it is considered as a commercial movie, it presents
a high standard level of moral code. It tells people to challenge life and to fight for their purpose. The Promise is just one of the majority of eastern movies, among them there are A World Without Thieves, Hero, The
Banquet and so on. All of them speak highly of the high-level morality. It is obvious that the major eastern movies focus
on a high standard moral code.
On the other hand, westerners desire for more individuality. As a result,
what they want is just to get the accurate information, based on which they can develop their own ideas. So movies in the
west do not involve a lot of “lessons”. Contrarily, they just elaborate the story and give the audience the chance
to come up with their personal opinions. For example, the famous movie The Lord of
the Rings trilogy, it doesn’t provide audiences an exact theme. Instead, it just gives many strong impacts through
visual effects, and encourages audiences to consider about it themselves. Besides The
Lord of the Rings trilogy, there are many movies can support this opinion such as Harry
Potter, Constantine, Mission Impossible, Pirates of Caribbean, I Robot, Matrix,
The Blade, Mr and Mrs Smith, Men in Black. They are all attractive movies, which contain imagination, action scenarios,
and science-fiction. What’s more, they don’t show us a certain theme, but after watching them, we think a lot.
Consequently, we can conclude that as the result of the different cultures
which influence them, eastern movies and western movies are different in regarding the level of moral code reflected in movies.
